Dick McEachern Scholarship

The Dick McEachern Scholarship is awarded annually to one Alpha Alpha member who best demonstrates the qualities of brotherhood.

John Richard "Dick" McEachern, AA845, profoundly impacted his chapter brothers at Louisiana State University through his sincere interest in others, through his upbeat, positive attitude while waiting a heart transplant, and through his extraordinary ability to foster brotherhood among his peers.

An accomplished lawyer in the St. Louis area, Dick looked forward to a reunion of brothers in Baton Rouge in the fall of 2017.  Sadly, he passed away in August 2017, less than a year after receiving his heart transplant. He will forever be remembered for his quick wit, kindness, intellectual curiosity, and genuine concern for others.

Scholarship Purpose and Criteria for Selection

The Dick McEachern scholarship is awarded annually to an Alpha Alpha active who best demonstrates outstanding brotherhood to other chapter members through honest and fair dealings, responsible actions, courtesy, respect, genuine concern, and loyalty to others and to the ideals of the fraternity.

The Section E essay of the common application should describe how the applicant has demonstrated brotherhood in the chapter, how he expects the fraternity experience will shape his future, and how he expects to give back so others can benefit from being a Theta Xi brother.
