Theta Xi Fraternity is pleased to announce that J. Tanner Marcantel, Alpha Alpha 1675 and current Vice President for Chapter Operations on the Grand Lodge, has been offered and has accepted the position of Executive Director. Tanner will serve as the 11th Executive Director in Theta Xi’s storied history, assuming the role after a lengthy and productive selection process. Tanner will assume his duties on August 3 after a transition from Interim Executive Director, Charlie Hiemenz.

As a student life and leadership professional, Tanner brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, as well as a keen interest in all things inter-fraternal. Well-known and respected amongst colleagues, his visionary work has contributed to the Fraternity in innumerable ways. Initiated into the Alpha Alpha Chapter – Louisiana State University (LSU) in 1997, Brother Marcantel secured his B.S. degree from LSU in International Trade and Finance with a minor in Russian. He then served as a chapter consultant on the headquarters staff in St. Louis, and went on to secure his M.A. in Higher Education from the University of Arizona. He is currently the Assistant Dean and Director of Greek Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA.

Brother Marcantel has had significant exposure to managing a variety of challenges that are inherent in fraternity management. He has adeptly and confidently navigated dialogues and solution-based strategies to address risk-management, masculinity and student development, safety and security, organizational health, growth and expansion, sexual assault prevention and values-based leadership programs for both students and alumni.

He is a long-time member of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA), a volunteer and lead facilitator for the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC), the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference (SEIFC) and Southeastern Panhellenic Association (SEPA). He has attended the NIC Annual Meeting as a member of the Theta Xi delegation, as well as all Theta Xi leadership programs. Tanner has been honored as the Outstanding Organization Advisor at Georgia Tech, the Campus Administrator of the Year for Chi Phi Fraternity, and the Administrator of the Year for the Georgia Tech Student Government Association.

Brother Marcantel offers this comment on his selection, “I am truly humbled that our Grand Lodge selected me to serve as Theta Xi Fraternity's eleventh Executive Director. I have high hopes that all of our members will live the core values of Theta Xi every single day. Our staff and volunteers will continue to work to provide the very best leadership and personal development experience for our members, both undergraduate and alumni. I will strive daily to earn the privilege to continue to wear the Theta Xi badge, and to make our Founders proud of what we've created. I challenge our Brothers to join me as we better our Fraternity together."

National President Richard Rushton, Nu 700, said, “We are excited to have Tanner accept the invitation to become our next Executive Director, and we look forward to a great partnership over many years to come. Tanner brings a wealth of undergraduate experience, local and national volunteer exposure and skill, and started his professional career more than 10 years ago as a consultant on our staff. Most recently his insight as a university partner has been invaluable to the growth of the Fraternity.”

The Grand Lodge would like to thank the Selection Committee, headed by Jeff Arnold, and the more than 20 candidates, both internal and external, who participated in the selection process.

Please join us in thanking Charlie Hiemenz, Interim Executive Director, for all that he has done during his time with the Fraternity. His engagement, skill set, enthusiasm and savvy has been invaluable, and he has done much to create an environment for Theta Xi to select and welcome a permanent Executive Director. Charlie will remain in a transitional role for a moderate amount of time.
